Kast Concrete was founded by Tim Bayes, who grew up in Switzerland surrounded by the country's inventive use of concrete in architecture and became convinced the material belonged in interior design, not just building facades. Working from a factory on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Newark, UK, he built what the company calls the world's first dedicated collection of concrete wash basins, casting each piece from an aggregate blend of local Derbyshire limestone, specialty sands, and pigment. Kohler acquired Kast in 2023, adding it to a luxury portfolio alongside Ann Sacks, Kallista, and Robern, with Bayes staying on as Managing Director and Head of Creative.
The catalog now runs to more than 50 basin designs across 28 colors, from freestanding and wall-hung basins to double-basin vanities, each keeping the handmade variation that comes from casting in a mold rather than machining a sink from a single material.
