Harmony of Modern and Legacy: Why Samuel Heath’s New Finishes Honor 200 Years of British Craft

Our partnership with Samuel Heath continues to flourish with the addition of two beautiful new organic finishes: Anthracite and Old Brass Matt. Full faucet examples of these new finishes have been added to our extensive display. We are also proud to showcase the latest variation to the distinctive One Hundred Collection, a keen example of British luxury.

The challenge of integrating modern design elements into a company with a rich, 200-year history is considerable– yet these new finishes harmonize beautifully with Samuel Heath’s existing collections and inject a subtle, more contemporary feel to these classic products.

This is particularly true of the Anthracite finish. While the name might conjure images of dark grey, Anthracite is in fact a sophisticated burnished finish resembling a deep gun metal. It has been described as a “steely hue with warm undertones and a soft matte surface,” a description that perfectly captures its unique character. This innovative finish provides a truly distinctive and modern look to traditionally conceived products, offering a refreshing contrast that is both bold and understated. 

The second new finish, Old Brass Matt, evokes a sense of nostalgia – being reminiscent of the classic antique brass finishes that were so prevalent in the 1980s – yet with a distinctly more refined and polished sensibility. Its creation is a testament to Samuel Heath's craftsmanship. Starting with a precise coloring process to achieve its inherent warmth, it is then transformed with skilled brushing from expert polishers, who meticulously work the surface to create a desirable "pre-aged" character. Finally, the matte finish is sealed, ensuring a consistent and enduring character. 

Samuel Heath has also continued to expand its truly beautiful One Hundred Collection. This Collection embodies the quintessential qualities of British luxury brands: the use of exquisite materials and the dedication to traditional craft techniques. Within this collection, the Modern branch draws profound inspiration from the sleek lines of an Aston Martin.
